HELSINGBORG, SWEDEN, 22 NOV 2017
Milab and Pearl reunited after 40 years of separation.
Swedish microphone manufacturer Milab Microphones AB (Milab) has agreed with the owners of Pearl Mikrofonlaboratorium AB (Pearl) to acquire 100% of the shares in Pearl and consolidate Pearl’s operations and product portfolio into Milab.
The two microphone manufacturers share a common heritage that goes back to 1941 when PML was founded by Mr. Rune Rosander in Stockholm, Sweden. In the late seventies PML was divided into separate business units that became two different companies, Pearl and Milab, and eventually led to a permanent separation. Mr. Bernt Malmqvist, who had served as production manager for both companies, purchased Pearl in 1988. Milab was acquired by Mr. Thomas Nöjdh in 1993.
For decades, the two companies have co-existed in neighbouring towns in southern Sweden. Both Milab and Pearl have continued to build exclusive high-quality microphones by hand, and both have developed ground-breaking new technologies and products, in many cases based on founder Rune Rosander’s rectangular capsule design. The merger of resources and technologies are expected to create considerable synergistic effects for both production and R&D. However, from a marketing perspective, Milab and Pearl will still be treated as two separate brands.
Mr. Nöjdh, who will continue to serve as Milab’s CEO, says: “The opportunity to bring these two companies back together after 40 years is a matter of great pride to us all. With the acquisition of Pearl, Milab will strengthen its position as one of the world’s finest manufacturers of high-end microphones, and I look forward to growing the business further.”
Mr. Bernt Malmqvist, previous co-owner and exiting CEO of Pearl is now looking forward to retirement after a life-long career in the microphone business. Mr. Malmqvist said: “With this agreement, we are confident that the wonderful and exciting Pearl technology is in good hands and will live on for another 76 years!”
Mr. Malmqvist and Sven Olof Andersson, exiting Chairman of Pearl, will support the integration of the two companies over the next few months and ensure a smooth transition for both companies’ customers and business partners.
After many months of development and fine tuning the PML Pearl Clarity small diaphragm microphone is launched!
The CLARITY is a metal membrane condenser microphone with discreet electronics housed in a sleek but very sturdy brass body. The capsules, for either cardioid or omni polar patterns are interchangeable. Its sound is full bodied with "air" which is good for making stringed instruments cut through the mix and also ambient and stereo miking applications.
As per usual the new Clarity is handcrafted in Sweden to the highest specifications. We invest a lot of dedication and care into our products as we have always done for the past 75 years.
We have decided to make the launch of the new microphone a grand occasion. We will be giving away a PML Pearl Clarity microphone in a lucky draw competition. Head over to our Facebook page and check it out.
The lucky draw will be operated form the PML Pearl Microphones Facebook page. Like our official page and share the digital flyer. Running from the 1st of July to the 31st of August 2016. The winner will be announced on the 1st of September 2016 on the Pearl Microphones Facebook page.
Since 2010, Total Management Group has successfully built up and maintained the distribution in Switzerland. For personal reasons, TMG will now give up this business and the distribution will be taken over by Dieter Meyer Tontechnik in Zürich.
Dieter Meyer Tontechnik is not only a faithful customer of Pearl Microphones but also has more than 35 years of experience in studio recording, design and operations of large PA systems, radio studios and film sets. We are very happy being able to draw on Dieter's immens know-how and contact network and wish him all the best in his ventures!
Pearl Priority and ELM-C reviewed in RecordingMagazine.
Paul Vnuk has reviewed Pearl's ELM-C and Priority models in the September issue of RecordingMagazine.
[Pearl Priority] is one of the most fascinating vocal mics I have used to date, with a truly unique sound; in my opinion, it’s well worth the investment if you want vocals that stand out sweetly in your mixes.
Not only did [the ELM-Cs] sound incredible, but I was able to make great use of their off-axis rejection.
Pearl is happy to announce that we now have a new distributor in Russia, Studio Center in St. Petersburg. Here is what Pavel Shemyakin (CEO) says:
"Pearl Microphones is a brand that we are happy to offer to our partnersand customers in Russia. Pearl Microphones perfectly fit ourbrands line in terms of the highest quality, unique features setand, of course, amazing sound. We are sure that these microphones will find theirhomes in the best studios and concert halls, and we are very excitedto introduce them to the Russian pro audio community, recording engineers andmusicians."
Having used and loved Swedish Pearl microphones personally for more than twenty years, I was delighted when the opportunity arose to distribute the brand in the UK.
Pearl microphones have a proud tradition and are amongst the very best sounding and performing microphones made today, despite their modest price point. I am therefore excited at the opportunity to introduce more UK professionals and dealers to these outstanding microphones, which are in keeping with Funky Junk's reputation for promoting the highest quality professional audio products currently available.
